You're reading: Luhansk authorities report casualties as result of strikes

The city of Luhansk in eastern Ukraine remains virtually cut off without access to food supplies, power and water, the city administration said on Thursday, Aug. 14.

Fighting and strikes continue to target Luhansk, leading to more civilian casualties and injuries, it said.

“Citizens have said that the eastern part of Luhansk came under heavy
fire on Aug. 13. According to eyewitnesses, a large number of
civilians were killed or injured as a result of the strikes. These
figures are being verified,” it said.

Luhansk has been without access to power, water and mobile or fixed
telephone services for the 12th day in a row. Water supplies were
resumed in some parts of the city for short periods of time.

Despite the critical situation, local producers continue to bake
bread. Municipal workers are clearing litter from the streets of the
city.

Luhansk is not receiving any food, medicine or fuel. All banks are
closed, and salaries and pensions are not being paid in the city.
