You're reading: Lukashenko: West does not need peaceful Ukraine

Minsk - Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has said he once presented the West with an acceptable option for settling the crisis in Ukraine.

“Regrettably, no one needs peace in Ukraine. I once offered this option, and the West agreed to it. Those who spoke to me said that it was a perfectly understandable solution,” Lukashenko said at a meeting with the leaders of the Russian and Ukrainian Communist Parties, Gennady Zyuganov and Petro Symonenko, in Minsk on Friday, Aug. 8.

The meeting was broadcast live by Belarusian state-run television stations.

“But I said to them: you should take account of the fact that it will be your litmus test, and if you want peace to be restored in Ukraine, you will agree to this plan, especially as you will not be required to assume any costs,” the Belarusian leader said.

“And then I understood once again, and I told other presidents about it, that we are simply being dragged into this slaughter. The more, the better,” Lukashenko said.
