You're reading: Medvedev: Raising Crimean pensions first priority

Crimean pensions must be raised to the average Russian level, for which purpose the government could allocate about 36 billion rubles before the end of 2014, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said.

“Our first priority is to raise pensions for the residents in the new
territories to the general Russian level. By preliminary calculations,
about 36 billion rubles are expected to be allocated for this purpose
before the end of this year. The budget has the resources, they have
been planned,” Medvedev said at a meeting which focused on the provision
of socio-economic assistance to Crimea and Sevastopol.

“The schedule for pension increases must be formed in the very near
future, in a way that it does not lead to inflation growth,” the
Medvedev said.

“I mean that Russian pensions are quite significantly higher than
Ukrainian ones. This, too, should be considered, so that is does not hit
the pockets of other Crimeans,” Medvedev said.
