You're reading: Mejlis delegates two representatives to Crimean Council of Ministers

The Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people has given its consent to the inclusion in the Crimean Council of Ministers of Lenur Islyamov as first deputy chairman of the Crimean Council of Ministers and Zaur Smirnov as chairman of the republican committee for nationalities and deported citizens.

A respective decision was made “in order to address practical issues
related to the provision of the necessary facilities for the Crimean
Tatar people,” reads a statement posted on the Mejlis Web site on
Tuesday.

In addition, the Mejlis took noted of Smirnov’s statement on
suspending from April 1, 2014 his powers as a Mejlis member with their
further termination at the next session of the Qurultay of the Crimean
Tatar people.

After two weeks of activity of those delegated to the Crimean Council
of Ministers the Mejlis will consider the expediency of the further
participation of representatives of the Crimean Tatars in the Crimean
Council of Ministers.

Islyamov is a Russian businessman of Crimean Tatar origin, who owns the first Crimean Tatar television channel ATR.

Smirnov is a Mejlis member, deputy chairman of the Mejlis, and a member of the Mejlis presidium.
