Rostov-on-Don - The Mothers of Russia movement started collecting signatures in Rostov-on-Don on Thursday, July 31 under an appeal to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, urging an end to the armed conflict in Ukraine.

“Our appeal to Mr. Ban Ki-moon deals with the situation in
southeastern Ukraine and with the necessity to end combat operations, to
create humanitarian corridors and to protect civilians. We started from
the Rostov region, given that it was the first to take in citizens of
Ukraine,” Mothers of Russia leader, Senator Valentina Petrenko told the
press.

She said the signature collection campaign will continue all across Russia.

“The Rostov region was the first to deal with the humanitarian
disaster in Ukraine and help the displaced persons. All residents of the
region volunteered to help these people and to accommodate them in
their homes. It is our common pain,” Petrenko said.
