You're reading: OSCE ready to assume key role in implementing Geneva agreements on Ukraine

Swiss Foreign Minister and OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Didier Burkhalter has said that the OSCE is ready to take up a key role in implementing the agreements reached in Geneva after the talks between Ukraine, Russia, the United States and the EU on defusing tensions in Ukraine, the OSCE press service has reported. 

In particular, while welcoming the outcome of four-party talks in Geneva, Burkhalter said the OSCE was ready to ready to take up the key role given to its special monitoring mission in assisting the Ukrainian authorities and local communities in the immediate implementation of the various measures agreed in the Geneva Statement.

“As new tasks and responsibilities have been assigned to the OSCE, I count on the continuous international support in funding and seconding of staff to the Special Monitoring Mission,” he added.
