The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has made amendments to laws enhancing protection of children's rights and banned the mobilization of men and women liable for military service who support three or more children under the age of 18.

A total of 277 MPs out of 302 present at the session on Friday, July 25 voted in favor of the law.

According to the unamended version of the law on mobilization training and mobilization, men liable for military service who support five children or more under the age of 16 couldn’t be mobilized. According to the adopted amendments, now men providing for three or more children under the age of 18 fall into the same category. They can be mobilized on their consent and only at the place of residence.

The amendments to the law don’t allow the mobilization of women liable for service who provide for children under the age of 18 (16 in the previous version of the law). They can be mobilized voluntarily and only at the place of residence.

In addition, men and women liable for service, who bring up children on their own, can’t be mobilized (if the children are under 18). These people too can be called up for service at their consent and at the place of residence.

Besides, men and women providing for handicapped children of the first and second groups under the age of 23 cannot be mobilized either.
