Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has urged German, French, Russian leaders and the president of Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) to take all necessary measures to release Ukrainian parliamentarian Nadia Savchenko and other political prisoners.

A total of 304 MPs supported an appeal addressed to the leaders of the aforementioned states, and 306 MPs backed an appeal to PACE’s leadership.

“The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine hopes for international solidarity and support and addresses the German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Hollande and Russian President Vladimir Putin as the leaders of the states which will participate in the previously announced meeting to settle the situation in Donbas in the Normandy format, calling on them to immediately take all necessary measures so that a MP of the eighth convocation, a member of the Verkhovna Rada permanent delegation to PACE, Nadia Viktorivna Savchenko, as well as Oleh Hennadiyovych Sentsov and other Ukrainian citizens, who are held against their will and are illegally detained in the territory of the Russian Federation, to be set free,” said the document.

Batkivschyna faction leader Yulia Tymoshenko presented the draft appeals together with her colleagues who wearing white T-shirts with the slogan “Freedom for Nadia Savchenko”. The parliamentarians stood up to listen to the draft appeals.
