You're reading: Rada permits detention of persons involved in terrorism for more than three days

The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, has permitted the preventive detention in the area of the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) in eastern Ukraine of individuals involved in terrorist activities for a period of more than 72 hours.

A total of 232 MPs out of the 309 registered in the parliament’s session hall on Aug. 12 voted for the law amending the law of Ukraine on the fight against terrorism regarding preventive detention in the ATO area.

The law allows conducting in the area of a long-term anti-terrorist operation, as an exception, the preventive detention of persons involved in terrorist activities for more than three days, but not more than 30 days.
