MILAN - Despite the difficult international situation, Russia and Italy see possibilities for cooperation, Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi said.

“We see that the international situation is difficult and that there are certain differences. However, we now find points of contact on more issues, beginning with the global terrorist threat, which we will also discuss in a bilateral meeting with President Putin,” Renzi said at the opening of the Russian pavilion at EXPO 2015 on June 10.

He said that EXPO 2015 makes it possible to expand Russian-Italian cooperation.

“We will work together on making EXPO 2015 an event that will help expand the range of our interaction. Our task is also to restore the wonderful relations between Russia and Italy, the friendship, to find answers to the challenges we are facing today,” Renzi said.

The Italian prime minister called the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in Russia, another big international event. “The next international event of such a high level will take place in Russia in 2018. It will be the [2018 FIFA] World Cup. I don’t know how the Italian team will do,” Renzi said.
