Moscow - Russia is banning imports of milk and dairy products from Ukraine effective July 28, a source at Russian agricultural watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor told Interfax.

The decision was prompted by numerous violations of Russian
veterinary and sanitary requirements, particularly the detection of
tetracycline-group antibiotics, the source said.

There have also been instances of bacterial contamination in
Ukrainian dairy products, particularly dry milk and whey powder used to
make cheese.

The ban applies to all dairy products, including cheese.

“The decision has been made; the Ukrainian colleagues have been
notified. The formalities of the decision will be carried out within the
next hour,” the source said.

Russia’s register of suppliers includes 10 Ukrainian cheese and dairy
product enterprises. Import of product from other suppliers (in all 27
are included in the register) was banned earlier.
