You're reading: Russian and German leaders continue to discuss Ukraine crisis

Moscow - Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Amgela Merkel have held a telephone conversation at Berlin's initiative, the Russian presidential press service reported on Wednesday, Aug. 6.

“The sides continued to exchange opinions concerning the acute crisis
in Ukraine. Vladimir Putin reiterated that the Ukrainian military
continues its operation in the southeast of Ukraine, a circumstance that
entails multiple human casualties and the exacerbation of humanitarian
problems. It was stressed that the authorities in Kyiv bear
responsibility for the ongoing events,” the press service said.

The Russian and German leaders welcomed the resumption of the
trilateral Contact Group’s work, as well as the establishment of the
Observer Mission of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in
Europe at the Donetsk and Gukovo checkpoints on the Russian-Ukrainian
border, it said.

The Russian president also reaffirmed the importance of establishing a
viable political dialogue between the Kyiv authorities and
representatives of Ukraine’s southeastern regions.

Putin and Merkel agreed to continue their countries’ dialogue at different levels concerning the Ukrainian crisis.
