You're reading: Russian list of banned or curbed imports from West ready but needs government approval

MOSCOW - Russia's government has already compiled a list of agricultural products, including food, whose imports from countries taking part in the current Western anti-Russian sanctions would be banned or restricted, Deputy Economic Development Minister Alexei Likhachyov said on Aug. 6.

The list is yet to be approved by the Cabinet, however, Likhachyov told Interfax.

At the same time, Interfax was told at the Agriculture and Food Ministry that the list was still going through various government agencies whose approval was necessary.

The list is based on a decree with immediate effect by President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday entitled “On Individual Specialized Economic Measures to Ensure the Security of the Russian Federation” and imposing one-year bans or restrictions on agricultural imports such as food and raw materials from countries taking part in the anti-Russian sanctions.

The decree, the text of which is posted on the Kremlin website, ordered the government to choose the types of products to be put under the ban or restrictions.
