Vladivostok – Russian agricultural watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor has blocked large consignments of Egyptian oranges and Indian rice from entering Russia through Primorye ports due to unreliable documentation.

“A container of oranges arrived to the Vladivostok commercial sea port by ship. Some 24 tonnes of fruit were being shipped from Egypt to Khabarovsk to be reloaded in the capital of Primorye. During the document check, however, specialists with Rosselkhoznadzor’s division for Primorye territory and Sakhalin region discovered that the phytosanitary certificate was not in line with Russian law, which makes it void. Due to the violations that were identified, the consignment of fruit, as a product of unconfirmed safety, cannot be shipped from the port’s territory,” Rosselkhoznadzor’s division for Primorye territory and Sakhalin region said in a statement.

A similar case has been registered at the Vostochny (Eastern) port.

In addition, the phytosanitary certificate for 40 tonnes of Indian rice was declared invalid due to numerous violations. The rice was therefore blocked from entry into Russia.
