You're reading: Ukraine and EU leaders say Minsk accords should be implemented

Ukrainian leader Petro Poroshenko, Council of Europe President Herman Van Rompuy and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso have reaffirmed the importance of implementing all points of the Sept. 5 Minsk protocol and the Sept. 19 memorandum, which envisage a ceasefire, border control and the release of hostages, Poroshenko's press center reported.

The Ukrainian and EU leaders agreed that refusal to hold elections in southeastern Ukraine in accordance with Ukrainian laws runs counter to the Minsk agreements.

They also said that the search for a solution to the energy security issues required joint efforts and coordination on the part of Ukraine and the EU.
