You're reading: Ukraine fully observes ceasefire in Donbas, says Klimkin

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin in Brussels on Dec.15 attended a meeting in the format of "Group of Friends of Ukraine in the EU + Ukraine" at the level of foreign ministers of the EU member states, and main attention was paid to the events in the east of Ukraine and ways to stabilize the situation, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has reported.

“Klimkin said that the Ukrainian side fully observes the ceasefire and is set to search for a political solution based on a peace plan by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and the Minsk agreements,” the ministry’s press service reported on Dec.15.

He also informed the meeting participants about the adoption of an action program of the new Ukrainian government, noting that its priorities include the introduction of systemic reforms of the European model in order to achieve Ukraine’s membership in the EU.

The foreign ministers of the EU states, in turn, noted that Ukraine would receive full support from the European Union on its path to conducting priority reforms, primarily in the decentralization of power, reform of the judiciary, law enforcement system and the fight against corruption.

“The main result of the meeting was the EU’s readiness to consistently support Ukraine, including at the bilateral level, and work on the principle of solidarity in de-escalating the situation in Donbas,” reads the report.

Klimkin also thanked the EU for supporting the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine and urged it to continue its consistent policy of non-recognition of Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea.
