You're reading: Ukrainian Foreign Ministry: Crisis settlement discussion in Kyiv’s absence ‘pointless and unacceptable’

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has voiced its discontent over negotiations held by the presidents of Russia and Switzerland, which today chairs the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), in Moscow on Wednesday concerning possible solutions to the Ukrainian crisis.

“Discussing peaceful ways to settle the situation in Ukraine in the absence of Ukraine [representatives] is pointless and unacceptable,” the ministry said in a statement.

The Ukrainian authorities are now awaiting confirmation of Russian troops’ withdrawal from its borders, it said.

“The withdrawal of Armed Forces units from the Ukrainian borders should be confirmed by real facts,” the ministry said.

In addition to that, Kyiv is expecting actual measures, including Russia’s implementation of the April 17 Geneva agreements, it said.

“Any ‘terrorist referendums’ in the east of our country are illegitimate by definition. Therefore any calls for their ‘postponement’ are not a sign of goodwill, but a mere farce. Russia has already realized such a scenario in Crimea,” the ministry said.
