You're reading: Ukrainian paratroopers come under fire from border with Russia

Ukrainian paratroopers, who are in the area of the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) in Luhansk region, came under artillery fire from the border with Russia and were also attacked by militants, the ATO press center reported on Tuesday evening, Aug. 5.

“At 1.55 p.m. – 3.15 p.m., the positions of paratroopers came under artillery
fire near the village of Diakove [Antratsyt district, Luhansk region].
The paratroopers are bravely holding their positions, being under the
crossfire of the enemy. From one side they are fired at from the border
with the Russian Federation. From the other side they are fired at by
outcasts. The command of the ATO forces is making every effort to help
our units,” the ATO press center reported on Facebook.

On Tuesday, Aug. 5 gunmen also opened fire on the positions of Ukrainian
government forces in the area of some settlements, as well as shelled
the Luhansk airfield with Grad rockets.
