The Ukrainian Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities Ministry will coordinate the joint work of the Ukrainian government and a mission of the World Bank (WB), the United Nations (UN) and the European Union (EU) on assessing the needs for the restoration of eastern Ukraine.

“We are faced with a difficult task in terms of rebuilding eastern Ukraine. I want to assure you how important it is to ensure the coordinated work of the local authorities, central government and donors to achieve that goal. It is necessary to use the mechanism for assessing the needs rather objectively,” Deputy Prime Minister and Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities Minister Volodymyr Hroisman was quoted by his press office as saying at a meeting with mission representatives.

World Bank Country Director for Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova Fan Qimiao, in turn, said that international experts had recently arrived in Kyiv to continue working with Ukrainian officials. He said that in December 2014, the mission plans to prepare a joint report on the needs of the region – the territory under the control of the Ukrainian government. Ukrainian ministries will be involved in preparing the report, he added.

As reported, in early October, a joint mission of the United Nations, the World Bank and the EU, at the invitation of the Ukrainian government, held the first stage of work on assessing the needs for the rebuilding of Donbas.
