You're reading: Dollar rises after strong data on hiring, growth

WASHINGTON (AP) — The dollar is rising against the euro following reports that the U.S. service sector grew in September and private hiring increased.

The Institute for Supply Management’s index of activity in the service sector suggested that the economy is growing, although slowly.

Payroll processing company ADP said in a separate report that private companies added 91,000 jobs last month.

That was a slight gain from August, but does not necessarily predict how the government’s official jobs report will turn out on Friday.

The euro fell to $1.3289 at 10:55 a.m. (1455 GMT) from $1.3369 early Wednesday morning. It had risen from $1.3246 late Tuesday.

The dollar also rose against the Japanese yen but fell against the British pound.
