WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Officials say faulty stairs in Poland's new National Stadium could delay the opening of the venue which will host the first game of the 2012 European Championship.

Managers of the stadium under construction in Warsaw said on their website on Wednesday they were postponing indefinitely the sale of tickets for what was to be the first event there on Aug. 6, a motocross competition.

The decision by the National Sports Center comes after inspectors detected faulty assembly of the stadium’s prefabricated steel-and-concrete steps that could pose a danger to users. If a complete reassembly is required then the opening planned for June 30 would be postponed by a month.

Poland and Ukraine are co-hosting Euro 2012.
