You're reading: Over 400 OSCE monitors to attend elections in Belarus

All international monitors invited to the presidential elections in Belarus will come, Belarusian Central Election Committee Chairperson Lidia Yermoshina told reporters in Minsk on Aug. 6.

“We have invited all international monitors, everyone agreed. At least, this is being confirmed,” Yermoshina said.

In particular, 40 long-term monitors of the OSCE will start working in Belarus on Sept. 1 and another 400 short-term OSCE monitors are planned to participate as well, she said.

“It is unknown yet how many CIS monitors there will be but first information has already come that about 18 people headed by Sergei Lebedev [chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, CIS executive secretary] will participate in the election campaign as long-term monitors,” Yermoshina said.

“All my colleagues [Central Election Committee heads], whom we invited, have orally confirmed their participation in the election monitoring,” Yermoshina said.

The Belarusian presidential elections will be held on Oct. 11, 2015.
