You're reading: Russian gas supplies via Ukraine halted to Bulgaria, Turkey, Greece and Macedonia

SOFIA, Bulgaria (AP) -- Bulgaria's energy ministry says Russian gas supplies to Bulgaria, Turkey, Greece and Macedonia have been suspended.

The ministry says as of 3:30 a.m. (0130 GMT) Tuesday ”supplies to Bulgaria as well as the transit to Turkey, Greece and Macedonia have been suspended.”

Pipeline operator Bulgargaz CEO Dimitar Gogov says the reason for the suspension to the Balkans is not clear and he does not know how long it will last.

He says Bulgarian gas reserves are sufficient to cover the industry’s needs ”for a few days.”

Turkey’s Energy Minister Hilmi Guler has confirmed supplies of Russian gas that arrives via Europe completely stopped Tuesday morning.

He says Turkey is trying to compensate for the loss with supplies from elsewhere.
