ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Striking taxi drivers from across Greece are heading to Athens to hold a protest rally against austerity measures that have seen an overhaul of their licensing rules.

Protest organizers say the rally outside parliament is to take place at 4 p.m. (1300GMT).

Taxi drivers have been on strike for the past 10 days, demanding that the government take back plans to scrap protective licensing regulations as part of an effort to liberalize the country’s crisis-hit economy.

Protesting unions argue that their members need time to pay off loans taken out to buy taxi licenses sold privately under the current restrictive regime.
