You're reading: Swine flu cases rise to more than 400 in Venezuela

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — Venezuelan health officials say the number of confirmed swine flu cases in the country has risen to more than 400 people.

Health Minister Eugenia Sader says the 415 people have been diagnosed with swine flu in 19 of the country’s 24 states, including in the capital, Caracas.

She said at a news conference on Monday that officials are running tests on 300 other people who have symptoms that might be the H1N1 flu.

The number of people being treated for the virus has more than doubled since Friday, when 202 cases were reported. Health officials have reported two deaths since an initial spate of swine flu cases were confirmed on March 17.

Venezuelan officials in 2009 attributed dozens of deaths to swine flu.
