The operator of a quake-stricken Japanese nuclear power plant began reinjecting water into an overheating reactor on Monday in the hope of cooling it down, news agency Jiji said.
Earlier, Tokyo Electric Power Co said that fuel rods inside the core of the Fukushima Daiichi complex’s No.2 reactor were almost fully exposed.
The Jiji report said a meltdown of the fuel rods could not be ruled out. A meltdown raises the risk of damage to the reactor vessel and a possible radioactive leak, experts say.
