Britain hopes that Ukraine will fulfill all of the necessary conditions to sign Association Agreement during the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius.

“We still really hope that it will be possible to sign the Association Agreement at the Vilnius Summit,” Ukraine Ambassador Simon Smith told Interfax-Ukraine on Tuesday, Nov.12.

According to him, Kyiv still has to do a certain amount of work to gain a positive result at the summit.

“I think that we have enough time to resolve the problems both of new legislation on the work of the General Prosecutor’s Office, as well as the Yulia Tymoshenko problem. We hope that this week a new law is adopted,” the ambassador said.

If the relative law is taken, then there is a possibility of signing the Association Agreement, and a new stage in the EU-Ukraine relations will start, he added.

“The work of the Verkhovna Rada this week, the work in the weeks left until the Vilnius Summit – this is a very important time. There is time to improve the results, achieve even greater results by the Vilnius Summit,” the British diplomat said.

Concerning the forecasts regarding the decision of EU country members whether to sign Agreement with Ukraine, the ambassador said: “I can’t answer for the 28 governments of the EU. As for [the UK], we haven’t decided yet.”

As reported, Ukraine hopes to sign Association Agreement with the European Union at the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius on November 28-29.
