KHARKIV - Doctor of the Berlin Charite clinic Lutz Harms has noted an improvement in the health of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, who is currently undergoing treatment at Central Clinical Hospital No. 5 in Kharkiv.

“We’re very pleased with these improvements. The patient’s mobility
is gradually increasing. The pain is much less and not so intense. But,
of course, if a patient who has a chronic pain syndrome is constantly
exposed to external stress, it’s not very good. This complicates the
treatment a lot. But we’re still happy with what we’ve been able to
achieve so far in working together (with Ukrainian doctors),” Harms said
on Tuesday, Sept. 18, near the hospital.

At the same time, Harms said that he and his colleagues hoped for more progress in the ex-premier’s treatment.

“We’re very pleased that there has been some progress in treatment
over the last six weeks. But we had hoped for more progress. I would
like to emphasize the role played by the fact that the patient is always
in a stressful situation… As for the patient’s complaints I must say,
that she didn’t much like the search of her ward. Naturally, she hoped
that the recommended eight weeks of rest will not be so stressful,” the
doctor said.

“With regard to medical aspects, the patient still complains of pain.
I want to emphasize that the pain is much lessened, and the patient is
now able to take a few steps unaided, but she continues to work hard to
improve her ability to move independently. She still needs help to move
for longer distances,” Harms said.

According to him, in the coming weeks they plan to hold more intense
treatment of the ex-premier. They also discuss the possibility to send a
physiotherapist from Germany to Kharkiv to help the local counterparts,
but the final decision on this matter hasn’t been taken yet, the doctor
said.
