You're reading: Opposition hopes Yanukovych takes positive decision regarding Tymoshenko by Oct. 15

Settling the issue of Ukrainian ex-Premier Yulia Tymoshenko depends entirely on Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, and only his decision will determine the destiny of the Association Agreement with the EU, Batkivschyna MP Andriy Pavlovsky has said.

“The chances [of signing the Association Agreement in Vilnius in November] are the same. But now everything depends entirely on Viktor Yanukovych: will he overcome his hidden complexes, horrors and fears regarding Yulia Tymoshenko? Could he overcome his personal psychological barrier and finally sign order about her pardon, or in any other way to take a positive decision regarding Yulia Tymoshenko?” he said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

According to Pavlovsky, even European politicians have said that “for a final resolution of the Association Agreement issue, they demand that the Tymoshenko case be resolved by the Vilnius summit.”

“Time passes on, and the authorities again put off the resolution of this issue to the last day,” he added.

As the MP said, the opposition hopes that President Yanukovych won’t delay this issue and will resolve it by October 15.

Asked whether Tymoshenko agreed with a proposal of authorities to be treated abroad or another option for leaving prison, Pavlovsky said that the ex-premier had many times stated her demands for full rehabilitation.

“Personally she wants not to be just permitted treatment, but to be completely politically and legally rehabilitated, because she is sure she committed no crime and that it was just political repression that put behind bars,” he said.
