The issue of selective justice will be raised during the EU-Ukraine Summit scheduled for Feb. 25, 2013 in Brussels.

“The EU-Ukraine Summit due on Feb. 25 is a regular component of the EU’s dialogues with other states. It is not aimed specially at discussing issues related to [former Ukrainian Prime Minister] Yulia Tymoshenko and other cases of selective justice. However, the issue will be discussed at the summit, as it is impossible to move forward in the EU-Ukraine relations before the problem of selective justice is eliminated,” Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine, Ambassador Jan Tombinski said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

The ambassador said that the issue has been raised numerous times by representatives of various EU institutions and that they had suggested solutions to the problem of selective justice, the settlement of which is one of the preconditions for the further development of EU-Ukraine relations.

According to Tombinski, former Polish President Alexander Kwasniewski and former European Parliament President Pat Cox, who are the members of the EP’s observation mission, could assist Ukraine in solving the problem.

“We really hope that the Ukrainian and European sides together will manage to settle the issue. The key message of the upcoming EU-Ukraine Summit is that European instruments should be used to realize the country’s potential,” he said.
