Movie in English: “Evening”

“Evening” is the second work of director and famous Hungarian cameraman Lajos Koltai. The drama explores the romantic past and emotional present of Ann Grant and her daughters, Constance and Nina. As Ann lies dying, she recalls, and is moved to convey to her daughters, the defining moments in her life 50 years prior, when she was a young woman. Harris is the man Ann loved in the 1950s and never forgot. Their love affair lasted only two days but it changed Ann’s life.

Future Shorts: “Everybody Dance!”

The “Everybody Dance!” Future Shorts collection is composed of short films and music videos, including Mexican short “Ver Llover” (“Watching it Rain”) by Elisa Miller, which won the Palme d’Or as short film at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival. So did Alma Harel’s music video “Pa Bailar Con Julieta” for the Bajofondo Tango Club. Also check out German thriller about illegal Russian-speaking workers “Between Walls” plus many more cinematic treats including The Chemical Brothers music video “Do it Again” and an R.E.M. video from film “Son of Rainbow” directed by Garth Jennings.

Numer482

Numer482 will play the same program as they did at their solo concert in Geneva during the European Soccer Championship 2008. Numer is a rock band, which sings its romantic songs in Ukrainian. The band was founded about six years ago in Odesa and called Numer482 by its front man Vitaliy Kyrychenko. The title came from the first three figures of the bar code of the goods made in Ukraine. Mass media already dubbed Numer482 “Ukrainian Red Hot Chili Peppers.”

TIK

TIK (the name can be deciphered as Melancholy and Culture) from Vinnytsya will give a concert dedicated to Aug. 24th’s Independence Day. Several years ago musicians released their biggest hit so far, “Oleni” (“Deers”), containing a line about “unshaven deers” and later on presented their brave remix for the song “Vchytelka” (“Teacher”). In May they released debut album “LITERADYRA” and gained “Not a Pops” award from Jam FM as Best New Artist of the year. Now TIK is playing on tours all over Ukraine and working on its second album.

DJ Dieselboy

Kyiv clubbers have gotten used to seeing leading European deejays during the last few years. But American drum’n’base specialists are rare guests. One of them is Damien Higgins a.k.a. Dieselboy, coming to make his debut visit to the city. In 2000 Dieselboy became the first American d’n’b musician whose single “Invid” entered the Billboard dance chart. Six years later his compilation “The Human Resource” took the 14th place in that same chart along with Madonna, Gorillaz and Depeche Mode.

DJ Apparat

Iconic German deejay Apparat a.k.a. Sasha Ring will play his famous mix of IDM and techno accompanied by Berlin veejay team Tramsforma Visuals. Ukrainian live project Tomato Jaws and UAM Club resident Eddy Good will support the guests. Together with Italian singer Gianna Nannini Aparrat wrote tracks for “Bruschello” opera, and with his Berlin friend Ellen Alien he conquered dance floors of all continents. Apparat’s lastest album “The Walls” was included into the Top 20 best albums of 2007 in Beatport.com, one of the largest retailers of club music.

Hardfloor

Hardfloor is a German techno duo, consisting of Oliver Bondzio and Ramon Zenker. Hardfloor’s most famous track is “Acperience 1.” Their distinctive acid house sound is credited to their virtuoso skill at manipulating Roland TB-303 bass synthesizers, they reputedly use up to six of these machines at once. The group were criticized for their formulaic but commercially successful remixes, yet their own releases consistently explore new territory.

Dynamo vs. Spartak

Dymano Kyiv will again play against its fiercest opponent Moscow Spartak, but this time in Kyiv. On Aug. 13 the teams played against each other in Moscow – for the first time in many years. Dynamo triumphed over Spartak with a score 4:1. Dynamo and Spartak have been rivals for a long time. Dynamo won the USSR Championship 13 times, with Spartak right behind with 12 championships.

“Fairy Tales for Adults.” Sculptures by Natalia Derevyanko-Mudruk.

Natalia Derevyanko-Mudruk believes her bronze statuettes to be actually living their separate lives next to her. Her fairytales are about these little heroes who are romantics, dreamers and adventurers. They dream about victories, inventions and glory, so they play the same games as people do. Derevianko-Mudruk graduated from the National Academy of Fine Art and Architecture. She lives and works in Kyiv.

Gerhard Trumler is a world-famous professional Austrian photo artist whose photos are exhibited around the world in galleries from Tokyo and Rome to Budapest and Berlin. Trumler’s works are published in the most famous world magazines such as Zeit (Hamburg), GEO (Paris), and Ovation Magazine New York. One of his books “Athos – the Holy Mountain” was recognized by the President of the Republic of Athos as the most beautiful photo book on the Holy Mountain in the 20th century. In Kyiv we’ll see 90 of his works.

European Wakeboard Masters

European Wakeboard Masters – most prestigious wakeboarding tournament in Europe will be held in Kyiv on the 17th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence. 20 wakeboarding stars from the different parts of the world will compete for the victory. The lineup includes atheltes from eight European countries, Russia and the Republic of South Africa.

Olympics: Basketball – Men’s Gold Medal Game

Apart from the closing ceremony, the Men’s Basketball Gold Medal Game is the last significant moment of 2008 Olympics that is left to enjoy. Few people doubt that US national team with Kobe Bryant and Lebron in the lead will play in the final. The question is who will be their opponents. In any case it will be an eye-catcher and enthralling sight. The First National Channel will broadcast the game only in the early morning because at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday when the game starts the channel will broadcast prayer for Ukraine and the military parade.
