Ukrainian-made furniture and home accessories are seeing a boost in demand, riding the wave of support for local producers that arose following the EuroMaidan revolution. Domestically produced crockery, featuring traditional decorative patterns and designs, is no exception. The Kyiv Post has picked out the most interesting brands of hand-made dishes to make your kitchen look cozy and stylish.

Most of the brands are only available from online shops, but
some items can be found at various fairs for Ukrainian goods. Most of these
will be on sale at the Vsi Svoi market at 12 Desyatynna St. on Sept. 17-18.

Pretty Plate

The Pretty Plate brand offers colorful cups, plates and
ceramic teapots. The brand, founded in 2014, sells the work of more than 25 craftsmen
at the website prettyplate.com.ua. Many
of the items available here have interesting and unusual shapes: there are
plates in forms leaves or fishes, elephant-themed teapots, baking dishes of all
types, and even jewelry.

Apart from crockery, the brand also offers cutlery, cutting
boards, candlesticks, aprons and other accessories for the home. Plates cost
from Hr 250 ($10) to Hr 500 ($20) depending on a size and design, and prices
are similar for cups. Delivery within Kyiv is free.

Orner Store

The online shop Orner Store offers a range of souvenirs such as plates, napkins, postcards and
mugs. The plates featuer prints of animals with funny expressions like a
“suspicious dog” or “smiling dog,”
“surprised cat” and a panda sticking out its tongue. The store also sells small
vases with black-and-white etchings of birds and deer.

A set of dishes – a cup and a plate – costs Hr 330 ($13.20).
The price of individual plates varies from Hr 150-200 ($6-8). Orders for
delivery can be made through the store’s website (www.orner.com.ua) or orders can be picked up
dishes at the store itself at 12 Bazhova St. near Darnytsa metro station.

Maistrenko Ceramics

Crockery makers Oleksa and Olesya Maystrenko founded their workshop,
launched a Facebook page and started selling their wares in 2014. They make
ceramic plates, salad bowls, saucers, mugs and teapots decorated with
paintings. As all of the dishes are hand-made, only a few items with a shared
design are available.

Maistrenkos doesn’t have a website, but the products can be
found for sale in the Gallery 48 store at 48 Antonovycha St., or they can be ordered
on Facebook (www.facebook.com/groups/maystr).

Anna Khomenko
Illustration

Ukrainian designer Anna Khomenko decorates plates with
illustrations of flower patterns and cute animals. Khomenko, who studied Book
Graphics at the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture, started sailing
her dishes just a couple months ago via Facebook and Instagram.

The designer mostly makes plates and bowls in pastel colors
for about Hr 300 ($12) each.

Pravda, b

Art store Pravda, b, located on Andriyivsky Uzviz (Andrew’s
Descent) in Kyiv’s historic Podil district, sells various hade-made clothes,
accessories and souvenirs. The store also sells exclusive hand-made plates and
cups for around Hr 140-280 ($5-11), painted by craftsmen who work in the store.

Apart from plates, the store sales a large range of T-shirts
with unique prints, stuffed toys, jewelry, notebooks, decorative figurines and much
more. Some items can be ordered on the store’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/pravdab ) but many
more options are available at the shop itself at 2-b Andriyivsky Uzviz. Pravda, b also has a store in Lviv.
