From Dec. 8, the center of the city will be turn into a fairytale Christmas Village.  

There will be an amusement park with various attractions such as a carousel, St. Nicholas’ train and an outdoor ice rink, all on Khreshchatyk Street and Maidan Nezalezhnosti. 

The grand opening is expected at 1 p.m. on Dec. 8 at the Kyiv City State Administration. In the Christmas village, visitors can purchase gifts for friends and family, try delicious national dishes and spend their free time in a novel way. A craftsmen’s workshop near the Main Post Office will provide master classes for all. A children’s petting zoo will feature goats, ponies and even small ostriches. Also, ‘phone booths’ will work for young visitors where they can socialize with fabulous characters: Santa Claus, Snow Maiden, Baba Yaga and others. On weekends and public holidays, puppet shows, performances by amateur circus groups, and master classes on making Christmas and New Year traditional dishes will be held.

New Year’s Eve and Christmas fairytale town will be open until three in the morning. In addition, until New Year’s Day, a traditional charity Christmas fair of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, ‘From Nicholas to Christmas’, is in place.
