The Kyiv Post handpicked five online services that deliver produce sourced from small farms.
Villa Roz (milk-shop.com.ua) is a farmstead where goats, sheep and cows graze on the outdoor pastures from early spring till late fall. Its owners boast that all the animals are fed exclusively organic products and don’t receive antibiotics.
Its online store offers various meat, seasonal fruits, vegetables, eggs and dairy products. The store delivers on the next day after an order is placed.
High prices for good quality products seem to be the only spoon of tar in this barrel of honey. One will have to pay Hr 165 for a kilogram of mutton fillet and Hr 220 for one kilogram of undercut veal. A liter of goat milk goes for Hr 65.
The farm managers offer guided tours as well. Adults are charged Hr 30 for the tour and children can join for Hr 25. The farm is located some 65 kilometers from Kyiv.
Babusyna Torbynka (babusynatorbynka.com.ua) is a Ukrainian farmers’ association that helps small-plot owners sell their products. Its website has the names and photos of all the farmers along with a brief description of their farms. A client can visit the farmers and check how they grow green groceries and breed cattle.
Those who don’t feel like spending their time cooking meals can use the shop’s ready-made packages. Buying cooked food baskets will save one’s time but not money. The prices for the pre-cooked meals vary between Hr 170 and Hr 1,790.
Other products in the online store are also quite pricy. One will pay Hr 40 for 10 chicken eggs, Hr 520 for a kilogram of snails and Hr 40 for a liter of cow milk. They deliver within up to five days after an order is placed.
Kormilets (kormilec.com.ua) offers organic farm products grown in Kyiv and Poltava Oblasts. Small ranchers supply the online store with little portions of products, so the food is always fresh.
Yet, prohibitive prices for poultry and dairy products may scare even the most devoted organic food lovers. A live goose on average goes for Hr 600. The price for condensed milk is Hr 85. One will have to pay Hr 120 for one liter of cream and Hr 200 for a live chicken. On the other hand, the price for eggs is lower than the average price in other farm stores. Ten chicken eggs go for Hr 25 while 10 quail eggs cost Hr 20.
The minimum order is Hr 400 but delivery in Kyiv is free. The only inconvenience is that the food is delivered only on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Kyiv foodies who hate shopping for perfect products for their next culinary masterpieces can also order ingredients and recipes from the service.
Just Cook It (justcookit.com.ua) aims to make cooking as easy as possible. It offers delivery of washed, sliced and packaged ingredients along with a detailed step-by-step recipe. As a result, the cooking takes no more than half an hour.
The food service takes orders every day from 9 a.m. till 10 p.m. Delivery is free for the orders over Hr 100. The price-scale of the offered ingredients are similar to the cost of a cooked meal in a mid-priced Kyiv restaurant. Greek salad ingredients cost Hr 55; BBQ burger components go for Hr 80. A set of ingredients for a charlotte cake are Hr 95.
For those who want to surprise family and friends with delicacies, the Persomal Chef (lpovar.com.ua) offers delivery of ingredients for a wide range of dishes. The products come with accurate photo recipes. One can also view video recipes on the website. Food delivery within Kyiv is free and it can be made seven days a week from 10 a.m. till 9 p.m. Card payments are accepted on the website or with cash to the courier. Portions arrive for two people.
