You're reading: Lifestyle Blog: Milla Jovovich sings in Ukrainian

It’s not a new trick for an actress to sing. Some Hollywood stars, including Jennifer Lopez, Hilary Duff, Lindsay Lohan have already blessed the public with their vocal talents. Ukrainian-born movie star and model Milla Jovovich is no exception. Now a recording of Jovovich has popped up at Youtube lately.

In it, Jovovich pays tribute to her origins, performing a well-known
rock hit “Proud Mary” in Ukrainian. The record was uploaded in 2012, but didn’t get wide attention until last week, when it went from several hundreds views to more than 35,000 views.

It turned out that the recording comes from a 2011 drama film “Bringing Up Bobby.” The original song was first presented by US rock band Creedence Clearwater Revival in 1969.

Jovovich’s strong accent is fully compensated with her passionate performing and rich voice. The actress performs the “Proud Mary” as a mixture of jazz and rock, adding special Ukrainian flavor to the
sound.

“We’ll begin this song soft, and we’ll end it hard,” Jovovich says in Ukrainian at the beginning.

Jovovich has been singing in Ukrainian before. At the age of 13, Jovovich released her first and only album, The Divine Comedy (1994). The album features 11 songs, including
one Ukrainian folk song – “In a Glade” (“Oi U Hayu Pri Dunayi”). The album can still be found on Amazon for $7.99 and in iTunes.

The actress has also released other songs and given live performances. Perhaps, she’ll perform in Ukrainian once again. The latest song by Jovovich, “Let You Go,” was presented at the start of the year.
