“Many people are worried about the future fate of Maidan. The key task of Maidan is completed – we have gotten rid of the dictator. Today people have elected those whom they trust to implement changes in the country. Barricades have completed their function and need to be taken apart. This is a key task not just for the mayor, but for the whole society – return to a normal life,” Klitschko said.

Kyiv’s main Khreshchatyk Street should be open for traffic and the barricades dismantled. He also said protesters need to clear out of City Hall. We also agree.

Maidan is an idea as well as a place that played a massive role in the positive changes in the country, albeit at the cost of more than 100 lives.

Those who are staying there should go back to their homes and take their Maidan ideals with them, becoming drivers for change. They should become activists and journalists, lawyers and lobbyists, workers and entrepreneurs, in their home cities. They should push for openness and transparency in government and in business, in a clean country.

Maidan should be the place where the inauguration of the new president should take place in June, with words of gratitude about the place that forever remains in the hearts of Ukrainians, no matter where they are from or where they go.
