Bob McGovern: More trouble brews in Ukraine
Violence and bloodshed are expected to follow a makeshift referendum vote in eastern Ukraine today, where militant separatists are hoping to break free from the embattled country — a move its president calls “a step into the abyss.”
“There’s going to be some violence because the government will get involved at the polling precincts, which are oftentimes schools,” said Oxana Shevel, a Tufts political science professor who grew up in Kyiv. “There is concern that these buildings are going to be taken over by force.”
