Here is the story of an Austrian prince, who dreamed of restoring Ukraine to its former glory, but died in a Soviet prison hospital in 1948, alone and exhausted by incessant interrogations and illness. Wilhelm Franz von Habsburg-Lothringen was born into the dynasty of the rulers of the Austro-Hungarian empire and was told from his childhood that the Ukrainians inhabiting the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria were “wild and unruly bandits.”
