Ukrainian carol singers will compete in Vinnytsia

For the New
Year and Christmas festive program planned for Jan.3-8 in Vinnytsia, a Ukrainian
carol singing championship will take place. Initiators of the event are waiting
for the guests from Kyiv, Kharkiv, Cherkasy and Ivano-Frankivsk oblasts, and
the town of Koziatyn in Vinnytsia Oblast. Besides the unique contest, residents
and guests of the city can enjoy a Christmas disco, a show program “Christmas Olivier
salad,” a festive concert ‘Santa Mania’. The colorful winter fountain and LED
sculptures are going to make the atmosphere more festive.

Guido Beltrani, country director of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, believes in Ukraine.

Beltrani: ‘I’m sure
that Ukraine will soon do major steps in its economic development’

Guido Beltrani, country director of the
Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, the State Secretariat for
Economic Affairs, shared his impressions about Ukraine.

 “I’m sure that Ukraine will do major steps
towards economic and social development in accordance with European standards.
I talked with people who were in Ukraine 20 years ago and they say that the
country has made a huge step in its general development.

“Speaking about Ukraine’s potential, I would
mention here three points.

“Agricultural sector, I also mean famous
black soil of Ukraine that can be used more efficiently to increase production.
Industry, but it has to be exploited correctly to avoid serious environmental
problems. IT services sphere where Ukraine remains still undiscovered. After 15
years of staying in Ukraine, Beltrani highlighted three things that impressed
him greatly.

‘Firstly, Ukrainians are very hospitable.
Ukrainian women are very beautiful. The second thing is that, basically, nobody
in Western Europe knows how Ukraine is huge as a country. It takes a lot of
time to travel but at the same time it’s an opportunity for us to discover your
country. And at last, most people in Europe don’t know how delicious Ukrainian
food is. I really like it and go out for eating as much as I can.”

Donetsk residents have formed a Ukrainian-language speaking club.

People in Donetsk learning how to speak Ukrainian

Despite the
status of a “Russian-speaking” city, some residents of Donetsk are conducting
weekly meetings of the Ukrainian-language speaking club. The club was initiated
by Serhiy Stukanov, the head of the Donetsk branch of “space of freedom”
movement. The meetings are held in a cozy and relaxing atmosphere, full of
lively talks and discussions after watching movies and playing different games.
Club membership is free.

Vadym Kolisnichenko wants Ukrainians to respect rights of ethnic groups living in Ukraine.

Ukrainian deputy is for peaceful coexistence of nationalities in Ukraine

On Dec. 27, the
Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine registered a draft decree offering the government to
accept the state program on celebrating the Day of Nationalities. It is said
about the annual Ukrainian nationalities festival where representatives of
different nations living on the territory of Ukraine can introduce their
culture, history, traditions, lifestyle and cuisine.

The draft
resolution is aimed at maintaining equal rights of the nationalities living in
Ukraine and preventing from potential interethnic conflicts and
misunderstanding. The document was prepared by Vadym Kolisnichenko, a member of parliament with the pro-presidential Party of Regions.
