President of Poland becomes the most efficient Ukraine’s lobbyist
The results of the survey, carried out among 54 Ukrainian and foreign experts, showed that ‘TOP-10 lobbyists of Ukraine in the world’ in 2012 is chaired by the President of Poland, Bronislaw Komorowski. The list of ten people who made a significant contribution into Ukraine and Kyiv promotion last year includes the following: Vitali Klitschko (head of the political party ‘Ukrainian Democratic Alliance for Reform’ and Wladimir Klitschko, boxer and IBF, IBO, WBO, WBA world champion; Aleksander Kwasniewski (President of Poland in 1995-2005), Viktor Pinchuk (philanthropist, founder of EastOne international investment and consulting group), Štefan Füle (European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy), Karl Bildt (Foreign Minister of Sweden), Yulia Tymoshenko (leader of the ‘Bat’kivshchyna’ party, the former Prime Minister of Ukraine), Hillary Clinton (U.S. Secretary of State), Dalia Grybauskaite (President of Lithuania) and Pavel Koval (chairman of the European Parliament delegation to the Parliamentary Committee EU-Ukraine Cooperation).

Ophthalmologists of Luhansk perform unique eye surgeries
In 2012 ophthalmologists of the Department of Eye Microsurgery at the Luhansk Regional Hospital have performed 642 cataract surgeries by applying new methods. Due to the modern equipment one can reduce the size of the cut, with no sutures, avoid progressing postsurgical astigmatism and complications such as inflammations.
According to the information the method is based on ultrasonic crushing of nucleus of lens and aspiration-irrigation technique of cataract extraction with intraocular lens implantation. Diagnostics and treatment is free, a patient buys an intraocular lens and medical consumables.

Walt Disney illustrator, Ukrainian by origin, is coming to Lviv
Jan.15-Feb.3 Valeria Sokolova, an American illustrator, Ukrainian by origin, an author of fabulous images of American heroes for children’s magazines and publishing houses ‘Jumbo Pictures’ and ‘Walt Disney’ presents her exhibition called ‘Homecoming’. This is the first Valeria’s visit to her native town for the whole Ukraine’s Independence period. The Ukrainian illustrator is going to present about 30 works for 7 children’s books, including illustrations for the first book by Ukrainian publishing-house. Entry is free.

Large family in Donetsk feeds about 100 needy a week
The family of Padalko, living in the city of Krasnoarmeysk, Donetsk region, is growing 11 children, 7 adopted ones included. Despite this fact the family has been feeding 100 needy thrice a week. Ihor Padalko says, ‘I decided to conduct charitable activity after enduring difficult times in my life, bankruptcy and 2 strokes. For 5 months and 21 days I was paralyzed. When the Lord healed me I made a decision to do the good for other people’. Charitable dinners cost the family about 20000 hryvnias monthly, for the 3-year period people have cooked 42,000 meals for the local residents who found themselves in a trouble.
