Ukrainian books are traveling
to France

 This year, Ukraine will be a special guest at the European Books Festival of Cognac, France, to be held on Nov.15-18. The main
slogan of this year festival is ‘L’Ukraine a la page.’ (Modern Ukraine).

Ukraine is going to be presented by Andriy Kurkov Yuriy Andrukhovych, Lyubko
Deresh and Maria Matios. Young generation of Ukrainian writers will be
presented by a native of Kyiv, Anton Kushnir, who got a month invitation to
live and work in the city of Cognac. In general the event will be participated
by more than 40 writers from different European countries.

Besides books, one is going to present other Ukrainian arts such as
movie, music, painting and photography.

The national project Know Ukraine was organized by KyivStar mobile communications operator.

 Kyivstar managed to find person who knows Ukraine best

 A man by name Yuriy from
the city of Kamyanets-Podilsky in Khmelnytskyi Oblast won 1 million hryvnias in
the national project Know Ukraine organized by Ukrainian mobile operator KyivStar. Within 30 minutes, Yuriy could give answers to 100 questions – such
a high result brought him a victory.

In general about 500,000
Ukrainians from different regions took part in the project; they answered about
four million questions.

The Know Ukraine
project was aimed at inspiring Ukrainians to get interested in their country –
culture, history, traditions, etc.

Kyivstar was conducted it
from Aug.1 to Oct. 28. It included three parts: information and entertainment
content service Know Ukraine Project, an ad campaign featuring legendary rock singer
Oleh Skrypka and http://iloveukraine.com.ua/ web portal.

The project has
finished and iloveukraine.com.ua web portal will continue working as a photo bank
with pictures of famous sights of Ukraine contained. Today, the portal can
offer about 125,000 photos to see.

The National Music Academy of Ukraine named after Pyotr Tchaikovsky will be one of the contest venues for the Fourth Mykola Lysenko International Contest of Young Performers in Kyiv.


 The Ministry of
Culture of Ukraine gives a new life to Mykola Lysenko musical contest

On Nov.15-24, Kyiv will turn into a big stage where young musicians will
compete at the Fourth Mykola Lysenko International Contest of Young Performers of classical music organized by the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine.
The winner will first get the Grand Prix of $20,000 and he will be also granted
an opportunity to play the unique Stradivarius’ violin, specially brought by
one of the international jury members.

The contest organization committee has already got more than 200
applications from the USA, Europe, Asia, the former Soviet states and even
Congo. All the participants will compete in four categories: piano, violin,
cello and vocals.

On the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine’s representatives, the contest is
going to become the most prestigious international music competitions.

The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation Development of Ukraine is one of partners of a Nov. 7-8 conference devoted to improving the lives of orphaned children.

 Orphans’ problems approaches
will be discussed in Kyiv

The International Conference “No orphanage: Systematic approach in
working with children and families” on Nov.7-8 in Kyiv is going to help to
increase efficiency on orphanage prevention and improve social dialogue between
the society and families with adopted children. The main directions of the
conference are orphanage prevention (interaction with families at different life
stages), adoption and family care (support of families and children, adaptation
of teenagers having psychological problems etc.), inter-sectoral cooperation after
launching new social services for families with adopted children and transformation
of services for children.

The event is going to be attended by experts from the UK, the USA,
Switzerland, Russia, Ukraine and Estonia.

The International Conference ‘No orphanage: Systematic approach in
working with children and families’ is supported by Ukrainian
President’s Commissioner for Children’s Rights, the Ministry of
Social Policy of Ukraine, non-governmental organizations and some charitable
