Basketball Association in Europe
recognized 21-year-old Ukrainian Alina
Yagupova as the best
basketball player in Europe. The Ukrainian
won a convincing victory over her colleagues, Faria Abdi from Sweden and Kverell Kassas
from Spain. Association president Olafur
Rafnsson said Yagupova is one of the
most promising young players.

UK government ‘sees’ Ukraine in EU

United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Ukraine Simon Smith said that the government
of his country forecasts Ukraine’s membership
in the European Union. Moreover, while speaking in the British parliament on Feb.4, the diplomat also told about the investment
attractiveness of Ukraine, mainly focusing on
the production sharing
agreement signed with Shell company. The agreement may help improve investors’ trust in Ukraine. His remarks came at the Yalta speech, an
annual survey of Ukrainian-British relations and Ukraine’s European
integration prospects.

Authorities tear down fences blocking free access to public beaches in Crimea.

Government removes
illegal fences in Crimea

The process of removing fences illegally installed is ongoing. According to
Anatolii Mohyliov,
head of the Council of Ministers of Crimea, all the buildings
illegally built will be dismantled. The minister
on resorts and tourism
of Crimea assured that all public beaches in Yalta, except the ones referred to in special categories, will be free of
charge. The number of free beaches on the
Crimean coast has reportedly quadrupled in the
last year.

Parking lots planted with lawn grass will soon be sprouting in Kyiv.

Green parking lots
are to be equipped in Kyiv

So called eco-parking lots will soon appear in the capital of Ukraine.
The lots will be planted
with lawn grass. By 2015, Kyiv plans to equip about 22,000
such parking lots. Local authorities promise to provide land rent benefits
for those who equip green parking on their territory.

Young researchers win awards.

Young researchers from Ukraine get eight awards

Pupils of out-of-school
establishments of Ukraine won eight awards at the
Baltic scientific and engineering contest held in St. Petersburg
on Jan.29- Feb.1.
Eight projects (out of 10) were awarded with diploma and
prizes. In all, 286 participants from Ukraine, Russia,
Belarus and Kazakhstan took part in the
competition.
