Number of children in Ukrainian penal colonies has decreased threefold
According to Ukraine’s
Commissioner for Children’s Human Rights Yuriy Pavlenko, the number of children
in penal colonies in Ukraine has decreased threefold in the last 5 years. One
such penal colony is planned to be closed this summer. At present, Ukraine has
6 colonies for boys and 1 girls’ facility (by comparison, last year there were
10 colonies for juveniles).

Lviv oblast launches health campaign
Local authorities and
the Lviv oblast community have launched an information and prevention campaign titled
“Responsibility starts with me,” aimed at popularizing a healthy lifestyle
among young people. The project will last until October 2013, and includes production
and distribution of print and promotional materials, and conducting relevant seminars,
trainings and workshops for pupils, students and youth of the region.
Sorochyntsi Fair invites on August, 20-25
This year the famous
and popular Sorochyntsi Fair, which takes place annually in Velyki Sorochyntsi
village (Myrhorod district, Poltava Oblast), will be held on Aug. 20-25. The
event is organized by the Poltava State Oblast Administration. According to the
organizers, the fair is annually attended by over one million visitors, 20-30
foreign delegations and hundreds of journalists. In 1999, the event got a
national status.

Spanish low cost airline launches Barcelona-Kyiv flights
On May 28 Spanish low
cost Vueling Airlines plans to launch Barcelona-Kyiv flights (Kyiv Zhuliany
International Airport). Planes from Spain to Ukraine will fly on Tuesdays,
Fridays and Saturdays (from May 28 to Sept. 20) and on Tuesdays and Fridays (Sept.
24-27). Planes from Ukraine to Spain will fly on Wednesdays, Saturdays and
Sundays (May 29 to Sept. 21) and on Wednesdays and Saturdays (Sept. 25-28). Airbus
A320 aircrafts are expected to fly on this route.

Anti-tobacco sketches by Donetsk artists will appraised in the US
“Donetsk free of
tobacco smoke” graffiti, aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle, will be appraised
by a World Lung Foundation expert. The social sketches contest, aimed at
promoting the image of a smoke-free city, was organized by the Donetsk regional
chapter of Ukrainian non-governmental organization Committee of Voters of
Ukraine under the auspices of the Donetsk city council.
