Scientists
from Vinnytsia invent a ‘virtual patient’

Scientists
from the Vinnytsia National Medical University have developed a
computerized model of human activity, a virtual patient called SKIF
that should be able to decrease the cost of medical testing. The
model imitates human reactions both under normal conditions and while
ill. The virtual patient took scientists and computer programmers 20
years to develop.

ranks 7th
worldwide in iron
production

Ukraine
is the world’s seventh biggest iron producer, according to the World
Steel Association. In January-April,
2013, the country produced
9.6 million tons (0.7 percent more
than in the same period
in 2012). On the
WSA rating Ukraine follows
China, Japan, Russia, India, South Korea and the US.

girl wins UN
painting competition

Yevhenia
Zakharchuk, a 14-year pupil of
the Aesthetic Education
Center in
Shostka, Sumy Oblast, won the 22nd International Children’s
Painting Competition called Water
Is A
Source Of Life,
organized by the United Nations. Zakharchuk beat
participants from Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and
North America. She will receive a monetary prize
in New York on Sept.18.

Cirque
du Soleil may organize a
parade in Kyiv

On
June 20-29, the world famous Cirque du Soleil will bring its
Alegria program to the Ukrainian capital.
According to the show’s vice-president
Craig Cohon, the tour in
Kyiv may be followed by a parade if a
minimum of 5,000 people sign up.

positive trend is being reported by travel agencies and is evidenced

were 2,041 such calls during the

Day celebrations in Lviv

year).
