Austrians are interested in Ukrainian lands, climate and oil pumpkins

More than 3,000
hectares in Rivne Oblast have been planted with oil pumpkins, which locals
sometimes call “black gold” (their price reaches $400 per kilogram). The
company driving this agribusiness development is Austrian firm Goldenkern, which
has been growing pumpkins in southern and central parts of Ukraine since 2010.

In Rivne Oblast
Austrians buy seeds (€500 per ton) and purchase the necessary equipment. Such cooperation is
beneficial for both sides: local farmers receive high-quality seeds and support
for proper cultivation, rent for the leased lands and free organic material as
a bonus. In turn, the foreign investors get high-quality seeds (used in
pharmacology) and low-quality ones (used in confectionery and bakery). Most of
the seeds are processed into oil.
