Unique system in
Kharkiv helps
children with cerebral palsy to
walk

A unique technique to help children with cerebral palsy to walk was introduced in
Kharkiv. The robot system Locomat simulates human movement. It also helps children train the
brain and repeat the same movements without the device.

The procedures should be undergone for 30-35 minutes every day for the period of 15-16 days. Depending on a child’s
abilities the system has several modes and can adjust the train period
and the step length. Each child is given his individual training program and the mode.

It is said that Locomat is very efficient system, however, it cannot help children with serious forms of cerebral palsy.

During an eight-month period, 75 children have undergone 1,030 treatments and now five of them can walk with no help. Young patients are treated free of
charge.
