Russians travel to Kherson for film shooting

The Moscow film studio Passenger has started negotiations on shooting a historical film in Kherson, Ukraine. The events allegedly take place in the pre-war and war periods of 1941; the plot of the future film is a combination of friendship and discord, love and hate, peace and war.

During the shooting, the Russian movie makers plan to invite local citizens as well; the cast will be known at the beginning of 2013.

Helping foreign students at universities in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast is the focus of a new non-governmental organization.

NGO wants to help foreign students in Ivano-Frankivsk

A newly established nongovernmental organization Charitable Foundation for the Support of Foreign Students has been created to help foreign students studying in higher educational institutions in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast. Activists want to help foreign students in solving different difficult situations. Founders of the organization believe that rectors of the regional higher educational institutions will support their initiative as they are especially interested in forming good image of the establishments.

Myron Fedoryshyn, a lecturer at the Lviv Polytechnic University, was awarded with the Japanese Order of the Rising Sun.

Myron Fedoryshyn, a lecturer at the Lviv Polytechnic University, was awarded with the Order of the Rising Sun, a Japanese order, given to people for distinguished achievements in international relations, promotion of Japanese culture, development in social or occupational welfare and preservation of the environment. The medal is annually given to 40 foreigners living outside the country. The associate professor on Japanese language received the order for outstanding achievements in teaching and researching Japanese. He was the first who wrote a Japanese language textbook in Ukrainian. The award was granted to the man on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Japan.

UN announces winners of sustainable development video contest

On Dec. 12, the United Nations office and the United Nations Development Program in Ukraine selected 15 video works submitted to the contest The Road to the Future. The contest was held in order to draw public attention to understanding the concept of sustainable development and its role for better and safer future.

Overall, the organization committee got about 70 video works highlighting both the most widespread problems of the modern world such as environment pollution, exhaust of natural resources, etc., and the ways to solve global and local problems.
