In International Support of Madame Yulia Tymoshenko: Concern over violation of human rights, democratic process & derogation of the rule of law

July 20th 2011 – London, United Kingdom

Open Letter and Statement of Concern

President Viktor Yanukovych of Ukraine,

Judge Rodion Kireyev,

Honorable Members of the Government of Ukraine,

Honorable Members of the Independent Judiciary of Ukraine,

As a leading advocate of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals my organization is one of tens of thousands of non-governmental organizations keenly concerned with issues which press upon democratic process, human rights, civil liberties, and natural law justice.

Those of us within the international community who are carefully following the unfolding “trial” of Madame Yulia Tymoshenko are now gravely concerned at what appears to be persecution and not prosecution. It now appears that the charges laid against her are spurious at best. The Ukrainian judiciary appears to be handling the case questionably and is apparently subverting natural justice. This gives cause for serious international concern.

We are now monitoring each of the words and actions of Judge Rodion Kiriyev

We are now monitoring each of the words and actions of Judge Rodion Kiriyev with an international team of law experts and independent special prosecutors. Madame Tymoshenko appears to be handling herself with dignity and restraint despite being subjected to what appear to be obvious derogations of lawful process.

We will remind the incumbent government of the Ukraine and its judiciary that international law and human rights are contained within internationally chartered and ratified codices. The international NGO community representing hundreds of millions of people in 193 nations have a voice which will be made and which will be heard in cases where democracy, the rule of law and human rights are under attack. Globally set standards must be adhered to in the trial of Madame Yulia Tymoshenko or there will likely be considerable consequences for those concerned who have been mandated as publically elected officials to carry out “best-practice” and stay within the rule of law.

We urgently appeal to the wisdom and grace of the Ukraine government and the Ukraine judiciary to deliver on law and merit to the eyes of the watching world.

In assurance of esteem,
