In “Ukraine Must Make Painful Compromises for Peace With Russia” (op-ed, Dec. 30), Victor Pinchuk appeals to the international community for a new start in attempting to end the war in Ukraine, stressing the inevitability of painful compromises for Ukraine.
Mr. Pinchuk believes, for example, that there is no chance of free and fair elections in Donbas until Ukraine has full control over its territory, yet he advocates overlooking this truth and accepting local elections. This would, however, pave the way for legitimization of the self-styled leaders who rule Donbas in brutal fashion and who are, without doubt, directed and supported financially and militarily by the Kremlin.
