Myroslava Gongadze on why the world should press for justice in her husband’s murder
Myroslava Gongadze, the widow of slain journalist Georgiy Gongadze, speaks about the ongoing need to arrest and try Ukrainian officials -- especially ex-President Leonid Kuchma -- for ordering her husband's murder. Gongadze was killed on Sept. 16, 2000. Three police officers and their supervisor, General Oleksiy Pukach, were convicted and are serving prison sentences. Their boss, Interior Minister Yuriy Kravchenko, was killed by two gunshots to the head on the day he was supposed to give testimony. Kuchma is implicated in ordering the murder and other crimes captured on more than 1,000 hours of recordings. He has denied involvement. Myroslava Gongadze's remarks came on the International Day to End Impunity on Nov. 23.
